I am alive....

the past ten days have been just wonderful... i had this long holiday and just in time i might add.. I was working long hours and needed the break and was blessed with one..but it did take time for me to slow down.. I kept visiting the office even though i did not need to..i had got into this workaholic mood and would get very restless if i was idle for more than half an hour..the break has been just the right thing for me..

Have utilised these free days to the max..been out for lunch almost every day.. almost everyday i have watched a movie...gone bowling..drove down to Ranganthitto and lots more..even managed a small 100 km ride on the bike in between...

Lately I have been witing just to keep my blog alive.. I have all these ideas but never have been able to put them down.. Somehow they elude me once i get hold of a comp... Maybe i need to start writing again..like i used to do some time back..the flow of words has not been as smooth as before and a lot of times i find myself searching for the right word...

The zing in my life should be back soon.. I will be riding to mumbai for an all-india-bikers meet.. It should be awesome.the itenary does look promising.. It should be a blast.. Sourabh and I are looing forward to this very much and we have been doing some research and stuff to make our journey smoother.. As of now it does not look like a lot of guys from bangalore are coming..hopefully a decent number of people should be able to make it there..it would definitely be more fun...

Looking forward to clicking lots of pics..
The high for sourabh and me is because we have been planning to take off on a long trip since a long time but have had to cancel every time for some reason or the other.. This time we have not run into an y roadblocks as yet and we are keeping our fingers crossed...more over the roads we will be travelling through are something we have been craving to ride on from a long time...

The whole ride for the two of us is going to be close to 10 days as we plan to visit Lonavala..Khandala..Goa..Mngalore..Krkala..and my native Puttur... We are surely gonna be 2 very tired people when we come back..we should have covered nearly 3000 kms by then..and when on the road we will be doing nearly 500 kms in a day...ah that has got me excited....

Now time to get back to planing for the trip.. adios..
Next update as time permits...

Ouch..Ouch..Ouchh..

That's what I am saying every time I hit a key while writing this..MAn..evey muscle in my body hurts...Well every thing has to be balanced..and this is the only downside of all the fun we had yesterday...

Yesterday was the annual office picnic..and this time it was to be held at a place called JALADHAMA..which is pretty close to TALAKADU....This resort was actually an island and was a pretty good getaway..I feel that with the right management and promotion..this place can be made much beter than what it is now..it has tremendous potential but has not been expoilted enough...
The place was a 3 hour drive from the office and we were there by around 10:30 in the morning.. After the welcome drink we decided to head to the Basketball court..and what followed was just fun..tiring... but fun...Karthik and me were this two man team against our opponents..Chaita decide to do more of waiting-for-the-ball-to-come-to-me.. ....Our opponents were pretty good..We were good at defence..but when it came to shooting baskets we sucked BIG time..we were lucky to just get the ball near the hoop and not project it out into orbit...
After a half hour of geting beaten Sriram came to or rescue..and we paid back the other team their dues... Two games down and we all were down too...literally.. All of us were out of breath..and ordered some lime-soda to help us recover...but we did not get to see it till a looong loong time later....
Then came the turn of badminton..It was more of a swing and then hope to connect exercise because of the court being outdoor.. After soaking up enough sun to last the day we decided to call it quits... talking of the sun reminds me of one crazy friend we had back in school..Once during our games session this guy decided to stand in the sun for as long as he could.and this was at noon when every body was elbowing each other for a place in the shade...The teacher saw this guy and asked him what he was upto..and this guy came up witha priceless " I am trying to evaporate my sweat sir"..and the teacher was a bit on the slower side..and by the time he got the joke the rest of us were rolling in laughter...

After "evaporating our sweat" Arvind and I decided to head to the pool.It was absolutely refreshing..and I loved the underwater swimming..I managed to do a whole lap underwater without coming up for air, even once..It felt good to do that.. It had been a loong time since I tried this...

Lunch was again good..with nothing being very oily...the only dissapointment being the Jamoons not being fully cooked.. Post-lunch we decided to relax on the swings..and we were all within an inch of falling aslep right there.. people were coming up with real good one-liners pulling every body else's legs...this was what managed to keep us awake..

Soon it was time to head out to the dam to try out some HYDRO-THERAPY...But not before all of us tried our hands at some of the boats and canoes there... Some of were happy to just laze in the boats and the more adventerous ones wanated to display their sea-worthiness....At one point we all were pretty sure that we would be heading at least one man short or one very very WET colleague..when two of these guys wanted to go in a boat..one with half an oar and the other witha bamboo pole...It was a sight to watch them trying to keep the boat afloat and moving..and they did manage to do it somehow....

The dam we were to visit was a 10 minute boat ride away... We got to see some clear water on the way.. the dam had some water leakage which had created a small water-fall. This HYDRO-THERAPY consisted of standing below the waterfall and letting the water fall on you..I was pretty hesitant to get in..but after the great reviews by others decided to jump in.. It felt absolutely wonderful...The waer hitting your body with all that force somehow had htis massaging effect...Once inside.we did not feel like coming out... But soon it was time to go..
On the boat ride back we managed to see a bird fishing..It swooped into the water and then went right out..We could see for ourselves the amount of effort the bird had put into this exercise...It must be very difficlt to start flying with water laden wings...

Tea followed soon after and before you could say JALADHAMA we were back in the bus and heading home... Soon the music system roared to life..and the small passage in the bus was being convereted into a dance floor..For the first half hour or so..Karthik and I were happy to play the part of the audience... Soon somebody pulled both of us onto the dance flor..and then there was no turning back.it was like they had unleashed these two dancing-crazy beings in us.. The two of us danced even when all others quit and we both just did not want to stop..we have invented a lot of dance moves and will be soon making patents..Karthik and I should have made a bundle by the next trip..thanks to all the royalties we are gonna make... we had the "Agent Smith" dance..the window washer dance..and the smelly armpit dance...and many many more...

Reached office at around 9:00 and there were long lines at the rest-room and the pantry... people were either in need of drinking water or releasing it...!!
This also was a good fun filled day..but very tiring mostly because of being out in the sun for a long duration....and now it is time to let the poor body recuperate..Sitting in office and typing this out is, I agree, not the best way to be doing this....

so ..Until next time..OUCH...

Five point someone...

Was intrigued by this book after reading Chaitra's blog....
This is a book by an indian author..and so the identification-with-the-characters is a defenite reality unlike most of the books that claim to be... This was one of the books where the characters have this coming-to-age experience... I for one was completely enamoured by this book..
It basically dealt with how things can go wrong, when you are " not thinking straight"... Hari, Alok and Ryan have got into IIT, and things take a nose-dive after their initial jubiliation at making it into one of the premier Educational institutes in India.. They are frustrated at the onus on assignments, tests and basically being burdened with work...they yearn to be free, but are scared to go against the system..Until Ryan comes up with his ideas, and this is where they let him take over their lives and begin to enjoy their life..
They have a lot of good times and their friendship goes through many hardships...They have a whale of a time and are content mostly because they have lost the drive to get good grades...
The book has a lot of emotions, ranging from comic drunk scenes, to ones of love blossoming and bearing fruits...and veering off towards tragedy and guilt ridden nights... This book must be a Bollywood producer's dream...and it is no wonder that the 70mm version is going to be out pretty soon..

I am not sure if i am going to watch this on the big screen..for I already have a vision of this book, and have been able to identify with a lot of the parts here.. The movie is going to be a projection of the director's view and I do not want to be imposed upon by that view...
On the othr hand it might be a good idea to watch it..if only for the sole reason as to see how much this book could impact people...

I am sure that there are going to be alot of mixed reactions based on their own college experiences... I can identify with these guys..because I was never ine to be buried in books..I was always doing these last-minute thingies..and somehow managed to do well... i did not want to lose out on some of the best years of my life..Luckily I knew where to draw the line..and was careful not to go overboard... That is actually what I guess the author wants to put across..that fine line between veering off into oblivion or having the best of both worlds.. The boundaries for each of us lies completely in our hands and we ourselves are solely reponsible for what we do...

This book has actually inspired me to start off on my writing once again...Hopefully I get to do some soon..as I expect to have a lot of free time on my hands..

The sensual nosering...

Recently observed that a nosering adds this sensual touch to a woman..Almost all the girls whom I have seen wearing a nosering..I felt them to be sensual.. and this is like way different from sexy..I abhor at people who use these two words in the same sense..not a lot of people differentiate between sensual and sexy...there is this huge difference..an example would be.....Sushmitha Sen is sensual but Mallika sherawat is sexy...

Views and reviews..

I have gotten into this new craze of buying movie CDs. I have been buying them faster than I can watch them..I still have to watch some of them before they catch dust and my mom dumps it in the garbage mistaking it for some trash.... Anyway..managed to watch some of them over the weekend and thought I' d put in my 2 cents worth about them..

English Patient...
This is a romantic movie set in the second world war..It is not the mushy mushy kind of movie..more of a mature romance..with some wild passion thrown in for good measure.. It starts off with this plane being brought down and the pilot has a miraculous escape but is badly burnt and injured.. A nurse who has had her share of woes takes it upon her to help this man recover..then follows th story of how the man landed into his present state in Italy, from being an explorer in Africa....
The basic premise of the film is his love story with a married woman..their passion for each other is pretty strong..but so is her love for her husband.... This film takes a sort of neutral stand on the adultery theme.. and the user can decide what he wants to see. This is something pretty difficult to achieve in a movie....since most times the directors opinion spills on to the screen...The camera work is pretty brilliant..and there are some interesting side plots too...
The movie has this uncanny knack for introducing twists just when the going seems rosy... It sort of makes you stop getting all dreamy eyed and take notice... Overall this is well worth the dough I had to shell out for buying it...
One word of caution though..If you are watching this at home..make sure your parents are away or at least cannot walk into your room...my folks have this unique gift for walking into the room just when the steamy scenes come on..And boy oh boy..the silence of the room is enough to put a graveyard to shame... then you get weird looks for the next day..and they start wondering if they need to marry you sooner than needed... Well in one word it gets pretty uncomfortable..oh that's two words...but what the heck...

The Day Of the Jackal....
This is another good movie well worth the money I invested on it...and this too needs to be watched with a lot of care and definitely without parental invasions... this is the movie adaptaion of Fredrick Forsyth's novel of the same name.. This movie does absolute justice to the book..especially because of the cast... The remarkable fact about this movie is the lack of background music in most parts of the movie..this is actually paying the audience a compliment and acknowledging their intelligence...as the main purpose in background scores is to spoon-feed you with the right emotions... You tend to associate certain scores with certain emotions.. but here the director has managed to steer clear of it... The assasin is such a cool person..who has planned the whole thing to absolute prefection.. it is so perfect with even small contingency plans thrown in..that you want the guy to succeed...the cold-blooded way he goes about his whole mission has definitey involved a lot of research... So go find out for yourself..if the Charles de'Gaulle can survive the Jackal's plans.....

Apart from watching these movies, the weekend was pretty normal..Saturday night's talk was revolved around our plans for New years eve.... and here started my problems... I do not have a date and so this would be a problem as entry to some parties would become an issue...Smitha came up with this brilliant idea.. she said I would have to catch some dumb looking chic at the venue and strike a deal with her..Pay for her entry in return for her accompanying me inside the party and then we part ways... anything after that would involve furthur negotiations...
Seems like a nice idea..but am very sure that I will not find any takers...
So... the hunt continues....

..Santa's Gonna visit me

Yeah.that's right..Santa should be visiting me this christmas..My good deed for the yuletide season was done yesterday..I Donated Blood..
On a more modest note..I donated blood yesterday at the Sai Baba Hospital..A heart patient was in urgent need of it and so had to go all the way near ITPL in the night..Feels very good though that you have somehow contributed to making some person's life better..I don't know who the patient was..
Ok..now its down to brass tacks..Let me see what I need from Santa.. I think a four wheeler( preferrably a Sierra) should do..also to adress one of my more immediate concerns..I think I will be in need of a date for the new years eve party..This I sure am gonna need a lot of help with..

Realised something about my riding yesterday..As i was saying, I had been near ITPL and was accompanied by my sister..We were returning at around 10:00pm and I was not going faster than about 60-70 kmph...I transform into this safety concerned rider whenever I have a pillion..And the ironical part is that about 2 weeks ago..me and my friend were trying to set land speed records on this particular stretch..at around 1:00 in the morning..on our respective bikes....Now that is a trait in my riding that I like..Maybe it is that subconcious feeling of being responsible for the other person's safety more than your's...

Oh..and Santa..I wouldn't mind some chocolates too....

..the week that was..

I managed to finish that write up of the kemmangundi trip last week. I must admit that this is not one of my better works, though..I should have put more effort into it..I was in this great rush to finish it as I wanted to complete it when I was not loaded with work ..and this took its toll on the quality..Oh well..there will be more rides and I am sure I will make up for it pretty soon...

Diwali was pretty low key this year..Anyways I have stopped with all the fireworks stuff..do not want to add any more noise and pollution.. This is definitely one downside of Diwali..there is so much of noise and pollution all around..and to top it, I developed an allergy to the fumes and had a bad cold the latter part of last week... I was working night s during Diwali and so, I slept through most of it anyway.

I went back home from office on the festival day..and was made to take an oil bath..it was actually pretty good..I must vist a spa soon.and see how relaxing an ol bath and a massage can be..:-) Then came the shopping for some home appliances which was loong overdue..Now we have a lovely new refrigerator and hopefuly this time..the cockroaches don't assume that we have brought them a new home..as they did with the last one..A delicious lunch follwed this..and then it was time to hit the sack..
That was my diwali..nothing very inspiring I must admit..but the upside was that I did not contribute to all that noise and air polluion..

The weekend was as usual..Saturday was filled with running erands for home..and of course a visit to STYX in the evening.. I was very envious of all those guys with looong hair and was cursing myself for choping my locks.. This weeks STYX sojourn had a purpose..We were celebrating my friend being accetpted by his girlfriend's parents'..Looks like a marriage in the offing....returned home in the wee hours as usual..

Sunday was a lazy relaxed day..The highlight was that I taught my sister how to ride the bullet and she is picking up very fast..

Kemmangundi --> Serve Chilled FINAL PART

Here is DAY 3...

DAY 3 NOV 1

Today was going to be the last day for our road trip. We were up by around 7:00 after just 5 hours of sleep. We were all a little groggy, but still managed to get up. I was promised that since I was their guest I would be treated to Davangere's special dosa's for breakfast. This inspired me more than anything else to get ready. I was soon all washed and spruced up. We first visited all of Uday's classmates who were in the neighboring hotel. I was introduced to them. They were all enjoying their reunion, and so was I. I hardly felt left out, even though I did not know most of them before today.

Breakfast was supposed to be at a small place, which was the hangout of these guys when hey were studying here in Davangere. It was called something like "kottureshwar". I do not remember the name properly. By now I was hungry and not thinking very straight. We had to wait for a very long time for a table. After we finally got a place, we placed our orders and the waiter was taking too long to get our orders. By this time we realized that it was 10:15 and the wedding was supposed to be at 10:30. We had to leave the place even before our food arrived. I was hoping to come here before we left for Bangalore.

We then raced across the town to the church to attend the wedding. This was the first Christian wedding I was attending. At least the first one where I was paying attention. The last one my friends and me were just making noise and had got thrown out off. Anyway, that is a story for another time. The reason I was paying attention was because I was expecting to see the "now you may kiss the bride" part. Apparently they skip this part in Indian weddings. Anyway learnt a lot about Christian weddings. After the wedding there was a reunion photo session and we guys hurried back to the room, to start packing for our departure to Bangalore. We decided that our lunch would be the Dosas I had missed in the morning.

Murgesh would not be coming back to Bangalore with us. He was going to stay at Davangere as he had taken a few days off from the office. The remaining three started packing and we were awaiting Reddy to join us. We went to get lunch and as my luck would have it the place was closed. I guess I will have to visit Davangere again, to be able to eat those Dosas. We next went on to visit BIET where Uday and his friends had studied. After that was a lunch stop at a dhaba pretty close to the college. Lunch was over nostalgic memories by Uday and Reddy. They told us of all the good and bad times they had experienced during their stay at BIET. It was pretty nice listening to all their exploits and I was getting very envious of Hostel life, as I have always been a day-scholar.

Post-lunch we got onto NH4 and set off towards Bangalore. By now the time was 3:00 pm. Sine this was the last day, we were all eager to get home, and get some well-deserved rest. We had a lot of sleep to catch up on. Also, our butts had started aching by now. Our first stop was after about 70 kms. We stopped for just 5 min, especially to give our sore butts a chance to recuperate. Stretched our legs and moved on and the next stop was somewhere midway between Davangere and Bangalore. We stopped at a Dhaba, which was populated by truck drivers. The truck drivers were pretty amused by our antics. We were all stretching and none of us wanted to have a seat. After a very long break here, we moved on. The problem was that the longer you rested you would want to just keep on sitting. All of us washed our faces and helmets and got back onto our steeds.

The NH4 is a very god road for night riding. Upto now half the road was under construction and so we had to make do with a 2-lane highway. After Sira, it was a 4-lane highway, and a huge divider separated the oncoming traffic. This made sure we did not have to worry about oncoming headlights blinding you. The roads were so good, that even though darkness had set in we were doing speeds in the 80's and 90's. Also, from here started our " I just can't go on" stops. Every 20 or so km one of us would overtake everybody and stop. This was because the rider's butt would not be able to take the torture anymore. The others would curse, but would take the break. Even our butts were sore by now.

After a few such stops we reached Tumkur by 7:40 or so. Getting off the bikes we realized how famished we were. This hotel we stopped at had an unique offering- "half-masala-dosa". This was a first for me. They would give you half a masala dosa, if you thought you would not be able to put the full one away. After our break here, we started off by around 8:10, and the roads after this were just too good. We were all doing very good speeds, as we wanted to reach home as soon as possible. We hit the city and parted ways. I dropped Jaggi and was home by 9:30, before my dad reached home.

I was able to surprise dad by opening the door for him when he came home. He was expecting me to get in late at night. The good roads had ensured that I reached earlier. Had a loong hot bath and a good home-cooked dinner. After dinner it was my turn to narrate my experience. They were happy to see me return safely and we all had a nice talk late into the night. A good sleep was what I needed.

I was so tired from this trip that I took , the next day off and spent all f it sleeping. All the riding and lack of sleep was catching up. In spite of this I was still heady from the trip. This is one trip I am going to remember for a long time. I met my friends the next evening and we all spent a long time discussing my trip. I even inspired them to go on one. All those wonderful memories still fill my thoughts and I am waiting to do this again sometime soon, and hopefully, the company will be as good as this one. I must say that the company I had on this trip was really good. It helped making the whole trip even more enjoyable.

Overall I was very happy with my bike's performance. We had done 800 km in 3 days and I had got an average of 41 kmpl, which is very good considering some of the bad roads we had to traverse. I also enjoyed all those looks my bike got on those highways. However one grouse remains. Everybody's first question has still been-"what's the mileage?” This apart, all those envious looks add to the whole riding experience. So then, Cheers until next time.

Kemmangundi --> Serve Chilled PART II

DAY 2: 31-Oct-04

The plan was to get up early and go to Z-point where you supposedly get a fabulous view of the sunrise. The place was still covered in fog early in the morning so this plan was cancelled and luckily no-one woke me up until around 7:00. Sleep had become a very precious commodity to me. We woke up lazily and finished our morning duties and headed off for breakfast. After breakfast it was off to Z-point which is the highest point in Kemmangundi. We reached halfway to this place and were about to turn back, since the cloud cover was still thick. Luckily ( as in most of our trip), the cloud cover disappeared and we had a fabulous view of Z-point. Looking at it we made up our minds that we just HAD to go there. We trekked up to the end and boy was it worth it? The view was absolutely fantastic and you can see for miles and miles and miles.. The locals told us that this was the plae the maharaja's used to visit on their horses for a view of the sunrise.

By 12:00 we got back to our guesthouse for we had to vacate it by then or we would be charged for 2 days.Next on the agenda was the Habbe Falls. This had a very trecherous road which ran for 10 kms. There was no way our bikes would survive this road, so we hired a jeep to take us there. This road was the worst I have ever seen. I truly admire the jeep for being able to take us there. On the way we saw a Safari, and the ease with which it moved on this road was amazing. Habbe falls was a treat after this ride. We had to trek for about 15 minutes through an estate to reach it.The falls is just awesome.. I know I am using such expletives throughout this piece I am writing. I just can't help it that all the places we visited had so much to offer us that we could not help but be overwhelmed by the beauty of nature.

We had a good time clicking snaps and just taking in the full splendour of the falls. We had to hurry back as we had to get back to Kemmangundi soon and start off to Davangere. our plan was to reach Davangere by night which was already a distant possibility. By the time we were back in Kemmangundi again it was 4:00 pm and it was then that we realised that none of us had any lunch and we would not be getting any for some time. We had to make do with some bananas and start preparing for the next leg of our journey.

Around 5:00 pm or so, we set off from Kemmangundi. There was promise of rain in the air and we were expecting to meet it at some point in our journey. The next 20 or so kilometres were just potholes but it was a descending road and the twilight made the view of the valley below just too irresistable to ride away without stopping and savouring it. After our descent we came in contact with the rain, we had been lucky to avoid so far. This lasted for a good 10 minutes, but as luck was on our side, it was not heavy enough to reduce visibility and we pushed onwards. Our next stop was a place called "Tarikere". Here we had a long stop for refuelling our bikes as well as our stomachs. After the delicious Dosas we had to prepare for the night. This part was something I always enjoyed. We would clean our Helmets and then wrap ourselves in our warm gear. We set off at around 7:00 or so from here and our next port of calling was "Shimoga". The road for another 10 kms was unexpectedly bad from here and the darkness made it more difficult to avoid the huge craters in the road.

In this stretch Jaggi was my pillion and I was making good progress on my bike as my headlight was pretty good. After some distance we found that we were alone on the road and the others were not anywhere near us. Jaggi and me waited for nearly 10 minutes and still nobody showed up. We beagn to get worried and took our mobiles out to call the others and realised that both our batteries had died out. We had no choice but to backtrack. After about a Km we found the others. They had stopped to help two guys who had just had a fall. Luckily our group was alright. We moved ahead at a reasonable pace after this, as the road also improved. Jaggi knew this road very well and so we did not have to rely on any signboards. So we could travel even faster.

Davangere was still 50 km away, when we reached Murgesh's and Jaggi's Aunt's village. We were to visit them and also finish our dinner there. They were a very hospitable family and we had a hearty meal. The downside was that there was no power and the whole house was in semi- darkness illuminated by a candle here and a candle there. So, I doubt if they will recognise me if I vist them again. I seriously doubt this. After dinner we clicked a few snaps and it was time to set off again.

We entered Davangere limits at around 11:00 pm. We were stopped at at-least 3 places by the cops. They would check whether we had been drinking, queston us for some time, check our licenses and then ask us to go on. They would even take down our vehicle numbers. This was the first time I had seen such an exercise and was wodering if there were somebody these cops were after. Jaggi informed me that this was normal practice for vehicled entering the city after 11:00pm. The nice part was that the cops would give us funny looks when we told them that we were biking all the way from bangalore. One cop even started chatting about the weather up in Kemmangundi, but al of us were too tired to get involved in his discussion.

At Davangere we got a room at a place called "Shanti Comforts". It was a vrey good room hich could accomodate 5 people and it cost us only about 400 bucks for a day. As we were settling in one of Uday's and Murgesh's old friends paid us a visit. It was around 12:30 by now. We all got talking and were looking at the pictures taken so far. It was nice to see a reunion going on. We hit the sack by around 2:00 in the morning. It was the end of a veru loong day, and we had a wedding to attend and also to get back to Bangalore by the next evening.

SMS conversation...

This is a SMS conversation I recently had with a friend.

ME: Dear GOD, please keep my friends healthy & happy and give them some money so that they SMS Me regularly.

Friend: Dear friend, when I ask U flower, U give me bouquet. When I ask a stone, u give me a statue. When I ask u feather, u give me peacock. ARE U Really DEAF?

ME: Sometimes when U cry no one sees ur tears, when ur worried no one sees ur pain, when ur happy no one sees ur smile, try farting all will stare.

Friend: @#$%^

Kemmangundi --> Serve Chilled PART I

The last weekend of last month I visited Kemmangundi. This was a bike trip, and I am always a sucker for bike trips. I jumped at the idea when Uday invited me for this. I was writing a log of the whole thing and realised that it would be a very long recount. So I have decided to break it up into three parts recollecting the three days we biked. Here is the first of the series.

The riders:Uday (Ambition)
Reddy (Electra)
Murgesh (Pulsar)
Sumanth (Thunderbird)
The pillion: Jaggi

This was an amazing ride whose memories will linger for a long long time. Good roads, good company and a damn good bike. What more do you need? The planning was all done by Uday. We had a long weekend coming up and so I too jumped at the offer. initially I was a little aprehensive as Uday was the only one I knew in the group. This apprehension vanished in just a little while as I got to know the others and they were all just great. There was a lot of camaradrie and I was happy to gel in so quickly.
The ride was planned over 3 days. We would visit Kemmangundi and then move on to davangere to Attend uday's classmate's wedding and then return home.

DAY 1: 30-Oct-04

We were to start off at 6:00 am from tumkur road, near the Outer ring road. I was working in the night shift and was planning to go home, pick my bag and start off. I knew I was not going to get any sleep for at least another 14 hours. This was fine as I knew the ride would make it worh it. The initial plan was for the others to start off, and I would catch up with them on the way, as I would not be able to make it only by 6:30 am. Lucky for me Reddy ran a little late and I left the office earlier than expected and was at the meeting point by 6:10. The early morning empty roads also played their part. By now it had started drizzling and we thought we would come across some heavy rain soon. luckily that too did not happen. We were actually very lucky throughout our journey. We had got hardly any planning other than the destinations and everything just fell into place as we moved ahead.

The road from Tumkur to Kunigal was just awesome and we al let loose. I had fun testing out the top end of my bike. Initially I was planning on doing a steady 80 or so. After watching everybody let loose I too starting speeding and reached 120 kmph at one point. I had fun dragging with a SUMO. I would overtake this guy evry once in a while and then let him pass just to bruise his ego another time.Going al out we reached Kunigal in no time and stopped for breakfast here.

Breakfast was a 30 minute affair, and after that the good roads continued. I was hoping that we get some narrow roads for some time at least, as I was getting tired of riping at high speeds all the time. Our next stop was just before Hassan. From Hassan we were to go to Belur. We were asking people for directions and one of the cops gave us the wrong directions. We went on for anout 2 kms before reklising we were headed in the wrong direction. We got back on the right road soon, not before passing through a lot of HAssan traffic. From here the roads got a little bad. For quite a distance there was only half a road as it was still under construction. It was fun to ride on this however as th eroad was more like a maze, and we had to keep swnging from left to right, to avoid all the potholes.

At Belur we had a small break at a Bakery. Here the owner confused us with his broken english. We asked him how much furthur to Chikmagalur and he said 74 kms, and we later found out that this was actually only 24 km's. Chikmaglur was conquered at 12:30 pm. Here we settled down for lunch and boy was it good. Chikmaglur is something straight out of some R.K Narayanan's book. It has the mix of the old and the new and both co-exist peacefully, at-least that's how it looked to me.

After lunch, we set off towards Kemmangundi. from now on we would be travelling on Narrow winding roads and would have to keep to our formation. Murgesh was in the lead, and Uday was the tail. The two bullets would keep swapping our places intermittently. Upto now, we had seen lush green fields on the highway. Now we got to see the Red soil for which this place was famous for. As it had been raining, the road was pretty slippery and muddy. The highlight of this part of the ride, was that we saw a HUGE battalion of cops swarming all over the highway, going towards Chikmaglur. Reddy almost met one of their trucks head-on but missed getting packed off into the mountain by just a few inches. After this it was relatively smooth sailing except for the road being slippery thanks to the rains that had lashed this place.

We stoppped at almost every bend and viewpoint to experience the sheer beauty of the place. The place was just so beautiful and Serene that I canot put it into words. The pictures we have taken do a lot of justice to the place but the real experience is something else. Our next stop was at Dattatreya Peeta. this is a shrine where the hindu and muslim Gods co-exist. This place is an eye-opener. Sadly it is not maintained as it deserves to be. After this shrine, there is a road that goes up to the top of this mountain, where a supposedly sacred sanctifying water-fall existed. By now the place was enveloped in a thick fog and visibility was down to around 10 feet or so. Now thanks to my sharp headlight I was the lead. The next 3 kms took us almost 10 minutes. This part of the ride was absolute thrill and was heightened by the fact that if we went off the road, that ould be the nend of us. The road came to a sudden halt and I had to brake suddenly to stop from driving off the cliff. We then explored the water-fall here. The story goes that you come here and have a bath in this falls to wash away your sins. You will have to leave behind every piece of clothing you came with. This was the sad part and people used this as an excuse to defile the place. The place was absolutely filled with clothes left behind by all those "sinners". According to me their sins would have doubled by resorting to discarding their clothes in this manner and spoling this place.

We left this place and started off on our journey towards Kemmangundi. This was going to be the last stretch. Here we passed a stretch of road which I have enjoyed the most. The road was a very narrow and winding one. Also, it had grass which was about waist height enveloping the edges of the road. We all went full blast on this stretch. At any given time, the gap between any 2 vehicles was just 5 feet. This required complete trust in the rider ahead, because if one rider had braked suddenly, we were all goners. Sadly we do not have any pictures of this stretch as we were all so thrilled at the ride that it slipped our mind completely.

Reached Kemmangundi finally by around 5:30, but found the whole place engulfed by fog, and so we missed the sunset. Darkness set in pretty quicly and we launched our hunt for a place to stay. We wer lucky that we got a decent enough place to stay at even though the place was pretty crowded. Since it was a long weekend, there were a lot of people here. Dinner was by 9:30 and we spent time just making arrangements for our food and stay until then. Hit the sack by around 10 or so. It was then that I realised that I had not slept a wink in the past 28 hours.

Next update as time permits me....

I am Back ...again...

I am beginning to feel very predictable and boring..lately all my posts have been just posts about my weekend and so is this one for lack of anythng better...
The weekend was the usual one..partying on Saturday and relaxing with family on the sunday and back to the Grind on monday...

This Sunday was an experience however..Me and two of my friends had entered a quiz competition in our club.. I was very sceptical about us making it to the venue..let alone qualifying.. We had al reached home at around 1:00 on Sunday morning and the quiz was at 9:00 am..and it was not like all of us had been drinking pepsi the whole night...:)

9:00 am saw Sourabh messaging me that he might not be able to make it.... a few frantic calls later all of us were up..and stumbled to the venue... The others must have misinterpreted our looks to be fatigue from preparing for the quiz..now that would be a laugh..Coffee revved us up. and we were ready to take on the quizmaster.. Since we knew the organisers we were trying to pull a few strings..unsuccessfully in the end..

We had about 30 min to answer 40 questions.. And we would be lucky to get 10 right...
We decided to have fun in the quiz and not tax ourselves too much... our answers were as far from the truth as possible...
One of the questions was " who was the last man on the moon" and our answer.."the guy who went after Neil Armstrong".. There was another question about some king of england..and we knew that it was one of the Henry's..so our answer was.."King Henry V/VI/VII/VII" ..I guess you get the general idea of how we fared..
After turning in our papers we were all given the answers..and this was the best part..after every answer was announced ..me and my partners would start giving each other high-fives.and after all the answers were announced we were all yelling so hard and celebrating... Those people are sure going to be one surprised bunch when they don't see us on the stage in the finals..

I just remembered a joke that came up on Saturday night..This one had us in splits for a pretty loong time...
A lady at a party: " Oye Sardarji..zara susu karne ki jagah dekhao."
Sardarji: Oye naughty..pehle tum dikhao"

Ahh..finally I am blogging again..

It has been such along time since I blogged. It has most definitely not been for the lack of material, but just for the lack of time..but what matters now is..I AM BACK

This weekend will be remembered for a long time..It started off on friday itself with a visit to the new McDonald's and a good loong drive, and with good company to boot..I felt like I was back in college and bunking classes(which i absolutely love to do)

The Saturday started off with something I like to do best..RIDE MY BIKE..
Was riding with three friends. Sharan was riding pillion with me and Ragu and Sandeep were on the formers's Pulsar. Our initial plan was to ride to Shivanasaudram to catch the beautifull waterfall there. When we were pretty close to our destination we saw a board to a place called Mutatthi. On an impulse we decided to ride there and boy.. was it a good decision or was it a good decision..The roads were pretty narrow and we met more cattle and sheep than the number of humans we had come across for the day.The road kept sloping downwards, and we were enjoying the fabulous ride. The roads were in good condition too.We suddenly realised that we were in a jungle and soon we could hear the river Cauvery. We suddenly came across the river and it was just fabulous to see the river in full force. We were so enamoured by the river and the beautiful roads that we kept riding and did not realise that we had passed our destination. It was too late to turn back and so we kept riding hoping to hit the highway soon. The roads became more of a dirt track after this.
At one point our bikes were pretty deep in slush and we were hoping that they would not stall or pushing our bikes in this slush would be nothing short of a mudbath. After we hit the highway we took a break and only then realised what a state we were in. Our trousers and bikes had enough mud on them for us to make people stare at us. Here we decided to turn back to Bangalore without visiting the falls.
Visiting the point would set us back by at least another two hours and it was vital for us to reach bangalore before 3:00 pm as Sharan was working that night and needed to get ample rest. Sadly we had to make this decision and save the ride to Shivanasamudram to another day.

Now I was thinking what better way to top off this wonderful ride. The answer was a visit to STYX with my friend and his girlfriend. This place has to be my favourite hangout... Was in STYX almost until they closed down for the night. The three of us were completely blown away by the fabulous music and had a whale of a time. S was however always concerned about how much we two guys were drinking, as we had to drop her back home.We finaly dropped her off at around 12:30 and we guys reached home at around 1:00 in the morning.

Now after all this sunday was a day to just relaxxxx and go zzzzz. Woke up in ime to see how India was faring at the chennai test. Met up with a few friends and was back home for the Sunday Famiily lunch.Surpise surprise.my favourite uncle was visiting us..Felt really good catching up with him after a verry loong time.
The only downer was that I had to catch up with some friends and had to meet S whom I was not ready to meet as yet..guess it will take some more recovering before we can get to a stage where S and I can talk. But this did not cast the shadow that I thought it would..guess that means I am well on the path to recovery..a few months ago, this would have left me in bad spirits for a day or two..not now..

Overall a fab weekend with the right flavours to make it balanced....

Vroooooomm

Last week i had to run an errand for my dad..i had to collect some dues at his previous clinic...I jumped at this, since the place was a good 40 km away and I would get a chance to ride my bike too..to top this, the weather looked pleasant enough for a ride..So..I set off in the morning, thinking it would be along day, but had finished all my work by noon..Thinking this might be too early to return home I thought I'd ride back through devanahalli, to be able to add around 20 km to my ride back home..It would also involve going through some good rural roads with a good lush, green view..I reached devanahalli and saw a signboard poiting the way to Nandi Hills..and guess what?? I decided to ride there..Always thristing for a ride....yes that's me..It was one impulsive decision that i thouroughly enjoyed..
The ride up the mountain road was exhilerating as I was scraping my footrest at every other curve...There were hardly any traffic and the view from the hill was just too good. Reached the top of the hill and stoppped for a break..the parking attendant was gaping at the bike and I sat down on a bench near him..bought a guava and was munching away on it..He thought i was expecting some more people to turn up and so was just killing time..his jaw almost dropped when i told him that i would be heading back in another 10 minutes..the look he gave me said it all..he even gave me a discount on the parking fee...apparently, the only people who come here are couples or people who want to spend time drinking and looking at the view..It was definitely not the nandi hills I remember as a kid...

The ride back was pretty uneventful, except for me bruising some pulsar guy's ego in front of his girl..The road was just amazing and i was testing the top-end of my bike..there was this group of couples' "ripping away to glory"(as we bikers like to say)..The leader of the pack was concentrating hard and was at full throttle..and must have been doing close to a 100kmph..imagine the surprise he got when i honked behind him and passed him at close to 120kmph..i happenend to look and i saw the girl giving an envious glance..that about summed it up..and the poor guy's bruised ego must still be recovering...

This impusive ride has started me thinking and i think I will visit my hyderabad friend next week..but I think i have to ride alone as my riding partner, Sourabh has his exams coming up and I will not be in bangalore by the time he is finished with it..but this ride is something i am looking forward to.....as usual..

make a wish...

This fact had enamoured me alot when I was a kid. I always wanted to feel that kind of power when you could wish for something. And I was always waiting for somebody to grant me my rightful three wishes. The best part was that I had already planned what I would ask for. it was not money or any such thing..
I had decided to keep saying" I wish for 3 more wishes" from morning to dusk..and I would have wishes to last me a lifetime..Me and my naievity....This always made me wonder why none of the stories I read at the time had never had such a wish in them..This someow would inflate my ego and I would feel very clever, that i had thought of something no author had thought of until then..and this would be my secret....

While I am at wishes..I am not normally a superstitous person, but always used to succumb to the eyelash-wish one. In this, if you happenend to shed an eyelash and somebody saw that waywatrd eyelash still sticking to your face..they would put it on the back of your hand..you would then have to close your eyes..make a wish..and blow it. If it was gone when you openend your eyes..you would get your wish..And I always have wished for a bike, every one of those times...recently a friend of mine happenend to chance upon an eyelash that had parted ways with me..and subjected me to this wish thingie..and guess what??? I wished for a bike, even though it has been the good part of a seven months since i own it..made me realise how much i wanted this bike...

Make a wish

When i was young( not that i am old and need a cane to support me now), one question that always mesmerized me was "what would you want if you could have three wishes".
I had come up with this unique solution. I would wish for three more wishes over and over again. Seemed to be a novel idea at the time. Realize now, how hazardous it could have been. And I always wondered why no stories had the protagonist use this method to be able to have a lifetime supply of wishes.....

There was this eyelash superstitions among my friends. Whenever you shed an eyelash and somebody noticed it , they would put it on the back of your hand. You were supposed to close your eyes, make a wish and blow it. If it was blown away, your wish would come true. Every one of thse times, I had wished for a bike(which I presently have). Even though I am not particularly superstitious, I always somehow did this whenever somebody found an eyelash that had decided to part ways with me.
Recently my sister was subjecting me to this make-an-eyelash-wish thingie and i inadvertantly wished for a bike, though its been some time since i have it now. Maybe that is how much i wanted it...

Philosophizing.....

Just had this weird thought..

If all the soothsayers and our Pandits can see the future, then has it already occured? For them to see something, I guess it should have happenend. So, if the future has occured, are we living in the past? Then what would present mean? Nothing i guess. Or maybe you can consider the present as just one fleeting second, because the neaxt second would make this the past...
If the future has occured, then what is the point trying to change it? and if they had seen the future in the past, then would they have seen themselves trying to see the future?
Isn't it futile then that we have some practices, to help us change our future? Can we really change it? What if my future was to live to a hundred and I commit suicide someday..would that be like throwing the spanner in the works of the Supreme one? would my future affect some other futures as well. What if I was to buy some vehicle or some other commodity and I wasn't around to do so. What would happen to it. Or to make it more personified, what if I was to marry and have kids and wasn't around till then. What would happen to them? What would happen to the future kids?? wouldn't it be like cutting off the lives of lots of people.
I think that if you want to change your future, you would be responsible for that of a few more people at least. in your existence you would obviously come across a lot of people and touch their lives in some way or the other, and vise-versa.
So, with so many possibilities, Can we really say that we can change the future?????

And while I am at this, I really can't understand this theory of re-incarnation, heaven, hell, re-birth until you attain Nirvana. The theory goes that you have to be a good soul and only then you will have a gate-pass to heaven and would not have to endure earth. If this is so, then why does our population increase. Considering all of us are sinners, the population still would have to be a constant right?? Or is our earth like some intermediary stage in this whole gameplan between heavan and hell????

Things like the above are what have made me an atheist. I believe that all these myths and religions and GOD were created so that we humans had a moral code that we followed. Our ancestors were very clever people, who saw the need for such fears, such as GOD, heavan, hell. and such things, to be instilled in us. They made these rules to keep us from treading a path that would harm us in the long run...We do not give our ancestors the credit they deserve..We have all been just twisting their rules to suit our personal needs and that is the cause for unrest in so many of us...I believe that our ancestors had a thought process much superior to ours and were mush more open to ideas. how else do you explain the kama-sutra being born here, and now every bit of such a thing is considered taboo, and if you even utter the related words, you are branded a pervert. I might even be branded so, for even daring to post such an opinion. But, what the hell, it is my blog....

I guess I should stop my philosophising, before I am labelled as some weird guy....

The fine print

Here is alist of the small thing that make me smile.
--> Coming home after a hard day's work and I see that mom has made some of my favorite stuff
--> You are involved in an almost-accident situation but you are in a good mood and just smile at the other person and he smiles back at you.
--> Walking down some road you see this good looking girl and smile, and she returns your mile.
--> Come to the office and find some mails that praise your work for which you have put in a lot of effort
--> go visit your family at a time of the day they don't expect you and the look on their faces is soo satisfying
--> You call up a friend after a long time and when you are deciding when to meet up, you ask them to turn around and you are there.
--> Meeting friends after a loooong time and you are engrossed in talking and hardly notice the time, and realise how long it has been since you guys have talked.
--> Somedbody whom you have been just a friend to, says something really nice about you and you realise you have judged him/her wrongly
--> Other people have more belief in you than you yourself do, and tell you when you really need to hear it.
--> you have this need to talk to somebody and can come up with more than 4 names.
--> Having a patonic relationship, that you can always fall back on, without any hiccups
--> you suddenly remember a funny incident and cant stop smiling, and the people around you think you have lost it.

and many, many more.....

DUH????

Here is a list of some dumb things, people come up with

--> Topping the list has to be the "mileage question". Whenever I am on my bike and meet somebody new, the first question invariably is" So what is the mileage?" about 34.75 on the higways and 33.987 in the city and 32.675 if you are abovethe speed limit

--> You meet somebody in a theatre and he/she goes"How come here?" I am their visiting veternarian and was checking on whether the rats had been fed properly

--> You see somebody after a long time and they go "So whom are you seeing now?" Your girlfriend buddy

--> Caught sleeping in class, the lecturer wakes you up and says."what are you doing?" Sorry sir, I am still a litle doozy to be able to do justice any good answer to that

--> The same lecturer threatens to break your teeth and put them in your mouth.. Like I had them up my nose before you came around

--> This happens very often in my friend's bookshop. He has a placard announcing that a particular magazine or book is sold out, and people look at it and still come up to him and ask him if it is available. only if you can carry off a tank top and a mini skirt

--> You have been going around for some time with this girl now, and she says"do you really love me?" No, its just that I like your deo sooo much that I can't let go of you and my therapist says I should stick around until this phase passes

--> People asking a waiter about what dish is good in that restaurant. Don't order the fish today sir. We poison it on teusday's you see

--> You are struggling with some weights in the gym and somebody comes up with"you need some help with that?" No thanks. I was just trying to maim myself today..

I had lots more in mind when I started this post, but somehow lost track of them midway...Like everybody believes this lame excuse

Profanities

Ever wondered how these words have become so much a part of our vocabulary that we do not think twice before utering them. Some of us do it as being part of the cool brigade and othere just to express about every other emotion that we know of. A simple word like "FUCK" which does not mean a lot literally more than a rude term for sex, can express joy, hatred, jealousy, hurt, elation, frustration and a whole gamut of emotions, and your listener hardly ever raises an eyebrow. I wonder how many actually know the origin of this "F" word. Well here it is anyway:
In the old english days, the times of the king and knights, every man who was newly married and had to bed his wife had to have the consent of the king. That is how the word came about. It means-Fornication Under Consent of the King
Now I guess some of you might think twice before using this word..In our workplaces, there are a lot of times we use these words unknowingly and try to look innocent, hoping no one else heard it, and if they did, jut grin sheepishly and hope it does not reflect badly on you...but it is exactly the opposite in college..the more often you use profanities, the cooler you are!!! That's fu***ng right, you know!!!
To sum things up this qoute from Calvin is just perfect-->"Life's disappointments are harder to take when you don't know any swear words."

And, Do I have the perfect corollary or what??--> "I'm only civil because I do not know any swear words" too fu****g cool !!!!

Chennai- The Indian Sauna experience

Is Chennai hot or is Chennai hot??? easy question I guess. You can rest assured that your answer is right, but if you are still groping around for an answer, then my friend please lead your browser elsewhere....
Well, getting back to Chennai. I had to visit this place for a day, and I now know the Secret behind all the slim tams in the movies. I guess the heat even explains their tempers. hmm..no wonder they are so docile in bangalore..put them back in their humid native and they are ready to take down the neighboring auto driver, and a few of his accomplices...
Man, the way those autos move around re-instates my belief in luck. Or else how do you explain so many vehicles hurtling recklessly and none of them colliding with the regularity you expect..Those guys use their brakes as the last resort..mut be the heat factor again...
The heat was so oppressive that, all I had to do was step out and walk for 10 minutes, and I would be soaked in perspiration...And the meticulous person that I am, no hanky or anything other than my sleeve to wipe my brow....I elicited quite a few stares..Imagine walking around the place looking like you stepped auto of a shower, clothes et al....When I arrived at the hotel, the lift operator did not have the patience to wait for me to get off before he started guffawing t my plight..The AC in the room did seem like heaven after that...
Before arriving at Chennai, I was warned about the con artist there who walk around looking like auto drivers..Surprisingly this was not a worrying factor for me..or maybe I was not very focused considering the heat..
Lunch at Chennai was a good one though. The local branch of Pizza Corner had an offer of all-you-can-eat for 100 bucks(99 actually..but lets not be cheap here..what's another rupee when there are 99 more involved)..I reckon they have taken down all their signboards after I left them..After devouring the first pizza, the waiter brought in the second one with his smile already inverting.....The third pizza brought out a weird look on his face and by the fourth he was wary of my table...I had a difficult time getting his attention after that..I wonder why???
It was a pity that I could not visit any places in Chennai, what with my schedule...I would have liked to see the beach..but decided against it after realizing that me and the heat did not get along very well....On the brighter side, I might have lost a little weight....I think one of my rides will be towards Chennai..but in winter....

Freedom

It's been so long since I have gone on a ride. Did a one-day trip few weeks ago, but it is just not the same. The wind on your face, the long stretchesof lonely road, the amazed looks of people on the road..They make the ride so meaningful...I hope to be riding this weekend, hopefully to Pondy, and if this doe not happen, I think I will visit my relatives in mangalore... When riding I absolutely love the wind rushing through my hair. But this does not happen often enough since I need to wear a helmet most of the time. I love to ride without the helmet, but safety does come first...It is just too good when you stop at some dhaba for tea, and when you look at the odometer you see that you have covered more distance than you had planned..Most of the time when I stop somewhere and people come over to have a look at the bike and start asking questions about it,the first question invariaby is " What's the mileage?"...This has happened without fail..my answers vary between 15-50 depending on how gullible my audience is...
There are a lot of other thing that make you love the ride...It is something that has to be experienced to be appreciated..
Someday I want to be able to ride to the Himalayas..see ladakh..and even upto Marismek-la..the highest motorable road in the world.... But until then...It is just gonna be

Miles and miles to ride before I sleep (Robert Frost)

Fahrenheit 911

Ii managed to squeeze in this movie yesterday..This movie is a real eye-opener. It starts off with the chimp(read Bush) being elected into office and all his blunders after that...
This was more of a documentary but the narrative by Michael Moore made you sit up and take notice..It always kept my interest..I wanted to see what was in the next frame...
This movie looks like an outlet for all the frustration and angst that americans having toward thier President. It is well researched though. Michael Moore succeeds in convincing us that the IRAQ episode was one big hoax and that all Americans have been duped by the chimp, Bush.
It shows all the connections he had with the Bin Laden family even before the sep-11 episode. It even talks about the Saudi connection which kept bailing him out of all his bungled business ventues before turning to politics..and bungling up the country in turn...
The authencity of the movie is heightened by the fact that there are real people who have suffrered..and all unneccessarily... There is a clip of an Iraqi woman who has lost 5 relaives and for no mistake of hers...
The blatant errors of the US government is on display here...Imagine the FBI come calling for you just because you were expressing your opinion on sep-11, and that too in a private gym..with your friends.. this has just made eemies of all friends..The Americans have been subjected to such apprehensions of terror.that they have lost faith in their friends too...anywhere they look they just seem to see terrorists
There are many instances of Bush's bungling and irresposibilities which have to be seen to be believed..
The icing on the cake is that Bush is gaining popularity in the forthcoming election..Well if he gets elected again..there is nothing more to say other than that those PEOPLE who vote him in deserve him!!!

I am back

Finally..I have a few minutes to spare this week... It has been a busy week..and I have just had not any time.. This early shift reinstates my belief that I am definitely not a morning person... I am a late bloomer..My spirits are high as the day passes by..this is why maybe I enjoy working at night...i even abhor parties that start during the day...
Well. That opens new avenues..I wonder what an ideal party would be like..I guess this means different things to different people.. I kew people in college for whom an ice-cream at the local parlour was equivalent to painiting the town red..and a movie was an outing of a lifetime...not that they did not have the means to do this as they pleased..they just were not the sort who liked fun..the others(read as people like me) were just the evil ones, out to poison the world..It certainly did not help that I gave them a good run for their money when it came to exams...
College was certainly the best experience in my life...It was like I was given complete freedom after being confined to the rigors of school for 10 years. In the beginning it was a heady experience..I was away from home for more than 8 hours a day..and all this was unaccounted time..Well in a way it was accounted time..cause my folks thought that I was sitting dutifully in college and looking upto my teachers..If only they knew...Anyway,as I was saying ,college in the beggining was a heady experince..for one..I had to avoid ragging..i saw ragging as a means to embarass you and my ego would be badly bruised if i let myself be subjeted to ragging..every evening during the last class i would make elaborate plans for my escape route...Inspite of this i did get caught once,,but realised that ragging had a good side to it..you made new friends...my new friends were people I would otherwise have not talked to..but for being in the same ego bruised group that was being ragged...
College has really changed dthe way i look at life..it was like walking out of a dark room and into the sunlight..your eyes take time to get adjusted and everything becomes clear ..but it takes time though..

Hey! reading what I have written so far..the tiltle hardly makes any sense..and I have been digressing like a cat with butered paws on a oil slick.. i think college entitles another post..Will do so soon..

Befor Sunshine...

This is the name of a very good movie contrary to what the name might suggest to some people. The name might bring a lot of ideas to some minds and they may watch this but am sure will be pleasantly surprised. I am in complete awe of the person who wrote this story. I imagined that Quentin Tarantino was in a class of his own but this movie is pretty close to his school of thought. The primary focus of this movie was the guy-girl chemistry. The chemistry was heightened even more by the fact that both knew that they might not meet each other again.
The whole movie looks more like life captured as it happens. Ethan Hawke and Julie are so fantastic, that it does not look like their lines were rehearsed. Their questions and responses seem so natural.
The movie actually starts off with the two protagonists traveling in a train and they just start vibing, which seems so natural. They are still talking and are interrupted when Ethan has to get down at Vienna. He has to catch a flight to the US the next morning. Both feel that their conversation is incomplete, and so he asks her to accompany him in Vienna till the next morning. This is where the fun starts.
Every line of dialogue is written with such intelligence that it seems like we are just prying on a natural conversation. For me the whole experience was like I walked in on conversation and could not walk away until I knew how this ended. The fact that both knew that they might never see each other again, I guess made them lose their inhibitions, and they talked about every issue under the sun, including feminism, sex, past love interests, their dreams, fantasies...
The best scene in the movie according to me would have to be the one in the bus. Both are seated in the last seat and the camera is on them. The bus is moving on both are involved in a conversation. The whole scenes lasts for nearly 10 minutes, and you hardly notice this fact because it seems so natural. This would have taken a lot of effort I am sure. During this scene there are some subtleties that make it even more enjoyable. This almost stands up to the scene in Mad About You, where it lasted for over 20 minutes. The whole scene was shot with Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt outside a door, with their 3-month-old daughter inside the room. Their conversation too is so captivating that you tend to forget that this was such a long scene. To make sure you appreciate this they even make a crack about this scene before the credits roll out (in typical Mad About You) fashion. Well I am digressing here. But what the hell, it's my blog, so only my rules apply...

How I wish .....

How I wish my blog had been anonymous.. There are SO MANY thing I want to vent, but won't, for the fear of being judged.. That is my waterloo I guess.. being judged for what I am not.. I have always had this "gift" for being labelled for things that I am not..and things I would not like to discuss here.. On another note does this not makE me a hypocrite for starting a blog and then writing stuff that is just "creative" and not "personal". The initial stage of blogging was fun..now it seems like a task more than something pleasureable...That is why I wish this were a private blog...There would be more updates then, since I would not have to be "creative" all the time.. well you never know, I just might start another anonymous blog soon...

Hair yesterday Gone Today

Yes that is what happenend to me..But I am loving all the double takes that are happening today..Still can picture the painful look on the barber's face when I asked him to trim my hair..but it still hurts that my effort of 6 months has gone down the barber's drain...

Chaitra's blog

Here is a blog which should brighten your day. She is a friend who shares my interest in C&H..maybe it is more like I share her interest as she is MUCH more keen than me on C&H..

Shivanasamudram

Went on a weekend drive to Shivanasamudram..long name ..hope I got the speling right. At least this is what most of the direction boards consistently said. Very unlike Hogganekal, where every district had their own variation of the spelling. Anyway, geting back to the drive... It was certainly one where I was a little apprehensive starting off.. We had forgotten to inform Arvind (Sorry man..still feeling guilty), and my fellow travellers would be 2 girls.. I would have to be careful about where we stopped and also keep an eye out for wayward characters. I was praying that we do not have any breakdowns with the vehicle, cause I would have to leave the 2 girls alone with the car and have to look for a mechanic..Luckily this did not happen... I was careful not to pass this apprehension onto the girls...However once we started off, the drive was getting enjoyable...Reshma was the owner of our transport-a maruti 800- and I was the substitute driver, but as it turned out I drove for nearly 80% of the distance.. Reshma,I guess surprised herself with her own driving. She was absolutely thrilled to be driving at speeds in excess of 80kmph..
The start was however delayed because I was not able to get up early. All thanks to my late night impulsive party the previous night..Went to reshma's house(and ironically she had been up early this day), and moved on to Chaitra's house.. I was pretty hungry by then, cause due to my night sojourn , i had missed dinner..At Chaitra's house her mom offered us breakfast and I jumped at the offer, fending off a few glares and rebukes from Reshma.
After this we set off , and the traffic on the way out of the city was downright pathetic.. The highway was such a pleasure after that. Discovered one definite advantage being born a man..the whole world is your loo..pity the girls for this though... The drive was uneventful other than our first stop where a couple of harmless guys tried to make some conversation with the girls..Didn't see them after that though..MAybe I scared them off...haha wishful thinking..
We made good speed to the falls and it was a really good iew. I would have enjoyed it even if not for all the liter there..It was such a putoffthe way people were littering.. The shopkeepers did not have any dustbin either. We carried our trash back with us, cause we did not want to add on to the defacing of this spot. We spent what seemed like a long time, just staring at the falls and admiring it.. It seemed to change shae every now and then....
After having our fill of the falls, we decide to we would head to Mysore to have lunch. We expected the ride to b not more than 2 hours but the bad roads made sure this stretched on fo r 3 hours...at times there was no road but just traces of a road, that should have been there..AT one point the main road continued on as a mud road and I took the oe that looked bigger. After about a Km, we luckily asked for directions and went back the right way...
Lunch at Mysore was a good one. After lunch we just got back in the car and headed home. And the less said about Mysore-Bangalore highway the better. We were all getting a little bored by now, and so I was making good speed.. The highlight was that the brake was behaving funny..It would work if it wanted and not work sometimes..Had to be very careful because of this...We also passed a funny man in a maruti..HE had a weird signal, which meant we could pass him when we honked behind him..It looked more like he was struggling for air or rowing a boat , than like a traffic signal...ust to catch this signal again I let him overtake me and honked to pass him...But, he did catch on the third time and there ended our highway entertainment.. Not much happenend after this except for a ford endevaour passing us like as if we were stationary, and hitting the city at peak traffic time...
Overall A good trip, and I would like to do this again soon sometime, and we definitely will inform Arvind and make sure he comes..CIAO

My Thunderbird

Riding my bike is getting to be pretty addictive to me. Riding in the traffic is still a pain, but all the stares at the signals you get makes it worth it though. I do not know how this got instilled in me, but it is pretty deep. Every time I travel somewhere, whatever vehicle I am in , I just can't help thinking of how this road would feel if I was on my bike. The experience of riding it is not easy to put in words. Riding the bike makes you feel like you are above the others on the road. As one fellow rider put it, while riding a bullet , you feel like you are surveying your kingdom. Don't think I can add anymore to this. It is better to be silent and thought a genius, than babble on and prove my foolishness.

Good from far but far from good

Today while walking from the parking lot to the office I saw a girl ahead, facing the other way. Watching her from a distance I was wondering how she looked , cause the view I had, looked good. I was picturing a gorgeous looking girl. To avoid leching I passed her without glancing. While passing her I heard a voice. "Excuse me", she said. I turned around and, was I surprised? It was a woman who must be at least 30 and, boy I would not be want to be stranded anywhere with her. Gave her the directions to some place she wanted to go to, and hurried back to avoid her calling me again. It a classic case of good from far but far from good or what???

Follicle folly

Today was going to be the day that i was gonna snip my looong hair.. Yes! it was indeed a sad day for me ..Making up my mind I set off to the saloon. The place is named "Well done". Is that being modest or what.. Today I was going to do this no matter what.. Since it was a monday and all normal folks were getting ready to set off to work, I had first choice of the seats there... Saw a mild mannered fellow and settled down in the chair that he was managing.. In a sad voice I told him to cut me hair to a sane length..
He took the pains to untangle my hair and combed it neatly and every strand was in place.. Ah how nice my hair looked. My resolve was getting weaker by the minute...I wanted to just jump off the seat and go home..I was beginning to feel vey depressed that all my effort at growing my hair so loong was gonna meet these scissors now.. I had to keep telling myself to just get through with it. It was getting more painful by the minute.. Wonder what the barber would have done if I had jumed off the chair and run home..
As I was putting myself through this torture he asked me if it was alright to trim it just half an inch or would I want more...You bet buddy I am not letting this chance go ..I told him to cut as little as possible..The pooor fellow started snipping slowly, like he would hurt my hair if he cut any faster. Guess he was making it loook worth the 20 bucks I was giving him... Man was I happy. It must have been some divine intervention that saved the day for my hair...Was I thankful for this or what.. My next experiment with my hair is gonna be after a month..hopefullly then I go through with it..or maybe not..

Stall-tisctics

Spare a thought for these statistics:

1) Almost 100% of divorced people started out as married.
2) 48% of all married people have been proven to be males.
3) 67.45% of statistics are made on the spot.
4) 87.46% of people living in amazon like to have a shave every thursday.
5) 36% of those below the age of 100 are heavy drinkers.
6) 76% of all married men are bald
7) 18% of all maried women are bald

100% of this post is sheer nonsense...

RE-Search

Isn't it funny that what scientists do is called research. Where exactly did they lose it that they have to research it?? and nowadays they are not so bright with their researches either.
Imagine some researches like the following:
1) It has been found that all dogs that have light coloured noses have more tendencies to howl at the moon.
2)Giraffes with looong necks have trouble winking at their partners during the month of june
3) Elephants never drink water when there are more than 8 elephants at the same watering hole knee deep in water.
4) When two squirrels are in love, they go colour blind.

And moving on to humans.

5) People living in the dep jungles of Amazon have no knowledge of how people in Taiwan look.
6) Men who have large tattoos on their chests do not like to wear shirts..
7) Americans when subjected to terror start to consume more eatables and sue the system for higher amounts for the resulting obesity.
8) Possessing or not possessing WMD's is harmful to your country if the world's big daddy is presently being ruled by some guy whose brain is still boarding its train of thought..
9) The intelligence of a countrys' head is indirectly propotional to its economic strength..

That's all for now folks..More updates as researches conclude. At present there are still research teams that have headed out into the deep jungles of amazonand other places where information is waiting to be unearthed. One intersting research on the anvil is whether drinking causes pregnancy..or the other way round and how this impacts the third world countries in their daily lives..

One-Liners

I am absolutely in love with witty one-liners. They are just the bright spots of my day. They are something I use to to keep my spirts high on damp days..speaking of spirits, its saturday night and I really do mis my spirits today..Oh well ,thee's always next week. Hey I am digressing here...Back to the point, here are some one-liners. Imagine if some jobless researchers come up with studies for such stuff and then, I guess they would label it as maybe....monolinotherapy and some of those jerks wou;d then maybe come up with monolinophobia..man that'll be the day.. Here are some anyway.

Hoobastank----> The Reason

Absolutely love this song. Maybe because I can identify with what' sbeing said here...

I'm not a perfect person
As many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why i need you to hear

I've found a resaon for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You [x4]

I'm not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be

A reason to start over new
and the reason is you
I've found a reason
to showA side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

Saturday night

Last Saturday night we had the "bright " idea of going to " THE CLUB". At the time it was a exciting idea. If only we knew what we had in store for us...
We are not the splurging types, but reached there and were just left gasping at the entry fee.
As if that was not enough the booze cost us the heavan and earth.
Our first hour passed by whining away at the prices and generally bitching about the place.
The people there are so dim witted and we thought it was a cool place..Oh boy was I wrong or was I wrong...
I don't think I will ever get adjusted to the lifestyle that those people there belonged to..I hope i don't . I like me as I am just fine...
NEVER AGAIN are we guys gonna visit that money pit..
To top this the place was filled with girls clinging onto guys like as if they would fall off the earth if they let go. And through the night they kept looking for stronger clinging places I guess, what with the same girls clinging to different guys at different points(pun intended).
The best part of the night( or morning by now) was the ride back home. We had 2 bikes( Thunderbird's) and were doing speeds of 110 at times. It was a cool experience. And stopping to drink tea on MG road at 5:00 in the morning was cool or what??

Lovely poem

Chaitra mailed me this poem today and I thought it deserved a mention here

I was thinking of old friends today
And how many of them have slipped away.
Moved, got married, or stopped calling so much,
Found new friends, got busy, and just lost touch.
It reminded me of falling leaves.
Every autumn the leaves fall from the trees.
Some stay longer than others, but eventually -
Each leaf must fall, I'm told,
Leaving the tree alone to face the cold.
Why is it that in the time of utmost need
The leaves would seek to leave the tree?
And when we need our friends around
We look and they cannot be found?
Of course these friendships come and go
And in the spring new leaves will grow.
But I prefer autumn friends of old
With crackling laughter and colors bold.
It saddens me now I must admit
How somehow, someway, I did forget
Laughing with old friends of mine
During summers when the sun would shine.
And then I thought of you.
That one stubborn leaf that won't let go.
That clings despite the winds that blow.
Fighting ice, and snow, and winter's stings
Hanging on right through till spring.
So I guess that's what you are to me -
The very last leaf to leave the tree.
I know it seems silly, but it's true.
When I see that last leaf...
...I think of u

Bore-dom

My kingdom no more. at least not this week. I have been so busy that I have not had a chance to so much as glance at my blog... Not feeling very creative today. Whatever comes to mind are like precipitates of some previous thoughts...here are some things I have observed and have not written so far...
1) In a crowd every time someone looks at his watch you tend to look at yours
2) Guys somehow fiddle with their belts when they see a good looking girl walkking towards them
3) Look into some shiny surface and you find yourself smoothing your hair.

Just read what I have written. Man am i working hard or what???
I need to cool off.....

Whew! What a week

What a week this has been. Been working such long hours lately. Using home as just a lodging.
Somehow the long hours have proved to enjoyable in a twisted sort of way.
The good part about this week was that onthe weekend i visisted Hogannekal falls. Still wondering how to spell this 'cause every district on the way had their own new spelling.
The ride was decided upon by clifton and me on saturday night at 10:30. managed to get up by 6:00 am on Sunday though I had a late night(1:00 am). The weather was very good for a ride. Left the office, where we met up by around 8:00 and reached Hosur at 8:40.

Hey this is getting boring isn't it. I think I am going to skip all this blah blah blah bout how nice the road was,the village girls were, the weather and other blah blahs ..
Overall enjoyed riding every one of thos 350 km's.

Am I short of patience or what. I seem to ust get bored in the middle of my writings......

The Heist

" Get your hands off that alarm B****"
Why the hell do these people have to try and be heroes? Why can't they do what they are told?
"Now keep your hands where I can see them. What are you staring at me for? Now fill that bag with all that money."
Ha ha. with this mask on, she'll never recognize me. She looks pretty nice though. Ok that's enough distraction for now.
" And all the rest of you, as long as you keep yourself pressed to the floor you can be sure you are all going home fine"
Man I have had it with this life. I just don't want to run anymore. If only I had gotten some education, my life would have been like these blokes lying on the ground here. Why did I have to run away from school? And the street taught me all that I didn't need. Actually I needed all those skills to survive. Ironically that is what keeping me alive today.Bit of bad luck though, getting caught back when I was at that other posh bank 4 years ago.And prison definitely was not a welcome change. That was when I knew I did not want to carry on living like this anymore. The others would not understand my anguish on visiting days. I never had any visitors. All my acquaintances were limited to a gig I was doing at that time. They would then share the loot and part ways.
No. I definitely want to settle down. No more crime.
" Hey you fatboy keep your head down if you want to continue seeing life tomorrow"
Whew! that was close. Lost concentration for just a second and that fat guy there had almost got away with his bravery.I better concentrate on this gig, especially if it is gonna be my last one.I guess I should be able to invest all this money in a nice city where nobody has heard of me.Getting married at this age might be a problem. Well, the money should definitely take care of that.Oh no there I go again. dreaming is not good now.
Hey! Why's taking this lady so long.

" Give me that bag now and get down on the floor"
"Nobody move and nobody gets hurt. Hey you start counting to 500. Loudly."
